Recycle Your Cell Phone Day

CollectiveGood is proud to sponsor Recycle Your Cell Phone Day today! Why recycle your cell phone? As of 2009, roughly 1 billion unused cell phones, pagers and PDAs sit in people's drawers or in our landfills, with another 3 million added to the pile each week. This is a problem because cell phones contain toxic substances such as mercury, cadmium and lead , which pollute the environment when the phones are thrown away.

Recycling cell phones means removing them from the waste stream, reducing the amount of toxins in our ecosystems. And CollectiveGood does not stop at simply recycling old cell phones. Phones that are still usable are refurbished and sent to third world countries so that people who might not otherwise be able to afford a cell phone can have access to this technology. Many old phones find new life this way, and both the environment and the less fortunate are helped!

Need just one more reason to recycle your old cell phone? How about this: proceeds from Recycle Your Cell Phone Day will benefit the i58 Children's Foundation, a nonprofit that aims to feed, clothe, educate and strengthen children around the world.

Recycling your old phones is free and fast. Clean out those drawers, send in those old cell phones, and do yourself, the environment, and those in need around the world a big favor. Just click to get started!
